Yao Guang is a 5-star Physical character on the Path of Elation, and her build is not as simple as “stack damage and press Ultimate.” A good Yao Guang build needs Speed, Energy, survivability, and enough CRIT consistency to make her Elation support value feel smooth in real fights.
Updated for HSR 4.3. Yao Guang’s 4.3 rerun has ended, but this build remains useful for players who pulled her, are preparing her relics, or plan to build Elation teams around future characters.
Build focus: Yao Guang is best treated as an Elation support / sub-DPS engine, not a traditional Physical DPS. In my experience, her best builds prioritize 160+ SPD, Energy flow, and defensive stability before chasing personal damage screenshots.

⚡ Quick Answer: Best Yao Guang Build in HSR 4.3
The best Yao Guang build in HSR 4.3 uses 4-piece Diviner of Distant Reach, Lushaka, the Sunken Seas, SPD Boots, ERR Rope, and a Speed-first stat plan. Aim for 160+ SPD, then build CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, HP, and DEF.
Her best Light Cone is When She Decided to See, while F2P players can use Mushy Shroomy’s Adventures or Today’s Good Luck.
If you are still tuning her action order, the most important thing is understanding how to tune Speed breakpoints in HSR. Yao Guang gets much more value from a clean 160+ SPD setup than from a flashy but slow damage build.
✅ Yao Guang Best Build Summary Table
| Category | Best Choice | Why It Works |
|---|---|---|
| Role | Elation support / sub-DPS engine | She boosts Elation flow while adding extra damage and team utility. |
| Relics | 4-pc Diviner of Distant Reach | Best fit for her Speed and Elation scaling. |
| Planar Ornament | Lushaka, the Sunken Seas | Improves Energy flow and helps the first-slot carry. |
| Body | CRIT DMG or CRIT Rate | Use CRIT DMG if in-combat CRIT Rate is reliable; use CRIT Rate if not. |
| Feet | SPD | Core slot for reaching 160+ SPD. |
| Sphere | HP% / DEF% | Safer for endgame support builds than Physical DMG. |
| Rope | Energy Regeneration Rate | Helps with her expensive Ultimate cycle. |
| Speed Target | 160+ SPD | Activates her best relic value and improves Elation scaling. |
| Best Light Cone | When She Decided to See | Best overall for Speed, Energy, and team CRIT support. |
| Best 4-Star | Mushy Shroomy’s Adventures | Best F2P-friendly Elation option. |

🌟 Yao Guang Overview: Role, Element and Build Goal
Yao Guang is a 5-star Physical Elation character. Her value comes from enabling Elation damage, improving team flow, and creating strong Aha Instant windows. She can deal damage, but she should not be built like a normal Physical DPS first.
From a planning perspective, Yao Guang is closer to a support-core: she wants to move early, keep her Zone active, help the team benefit from Elation mechanics, and survive long enough to repeat that cycle. If you are still learning how character roles interact, this guide on how Paths, Elements, and team roles work is a useful companion while building her.
| Category | Yao Guang Details | Build Impact |
|---|---|---|
| Rarity | 5-Star | Limited character investment should be planned carefully. |
| Element | Physical | Helpful into Physical weakness, but not the main reason to build her. |
| Path | Elation | Her kit is designed around Elation, Punchline, and Aha Instant value. |
| Combat Role | Support / sub-DPS engine | She improves team damage flow more than she replaces a main carry. |
| Best Team Type | Elation or SP-consuming teams | She gains more practical value when allies consume Skill Points and trigger extra damage. |
In my experience: Yao Guang feels much better when you judge her by team cycles, not by one personal hit. If her team clears faster, keeps buffs aligned, and gets smoother Aha Instant timing, the build is working.
🧩 How Yao Guang Works
Yao Guang’s kit revolves around three practical ideas: Zone uptime, Punchline generation, and Aha Instant timing. If you only look at her damage numbers, you will miss why she is valuable in Elation teams.
🎭 Zone, Punchline and Aha Instant
| Kit Part | What It Does | Why It Matters for the Build |
|---|---|---|
| Skill | Deploys her Zone and supports ally Elation value. | Skill uptime is central to her role. Do not delay it unnecessarily. |
| Basic ATK | Generates Energy and Punchline without spending Skill Points. | Useful when your DPS needs Skill Points more than Yao Guang does. |
| Ultimate | Creates a major Aha Instant window and team damage opportunity. | ERR Rope is valuable because her Ultimate is central to her impact. |
| Talent | Adds Great Boon damage when allies attack, with extra value when Skill Points are consumed. | Explains why SP-consuming DPS units pair well with her. |
| Bonus Abilities | Reward Speed, CRIT DMG, SP recovery, and Certified Banger duration. | Supports a fast, consistent, support-oriented build. |
Practical tip: If Yao Guang feels underwhelming, check her Speed and Ultimate timing before blaming her relic set. A slow Yao Guang often fails to show what her kit is supposed to do.
🔁 Yao Guang Rotation Priority
- Use Technique before battle when available, especially for important endgame attempts.
- Use Skill early to deploy her Zone and start the Elation setup.
- Use Basic ATK when Skill Points are tight, especially in SP-heavy teams.
- Use Ultimate around your team’s damage window, not randomly at the end of a wave.
- Keep her alive and fast; losing Yao Guang removes a large part of the team’s engine.
Common play error: Do not spend Skill Points with Yao Guang every turn just because she is a limited 5-star. Her Basic ATK is part of her real rotation because it helps Energy and Punchline while protecting team Skill Point economy.

🔥 Yao Guang Trace Priority
Trace priority is one of the most important missing pieces in many Yao Guang builds. Her upgrades affect Zone value, Ultimate payoff, Talent damage, and Elation Skill performance. For most players, do not spread resources evenly at first; upgrade the traces that affect her team value first.
| Priority | Trace | Why You Upgrade It | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Ultimate | Core Aha Instant and RES PEN window. | Max early. This is one of her biggest team-value upgrades. |
| 2 | Skill | Improves Zone uptime and Elation support value. | Max early, especially if Yao Guang is a core team support. |
| 3 | Talent | Improves Great Boon / Certified Banger damage contribution. | High priority after Ultimate and Skill. |
| 4 | Elation Skill | Improves damage during Aha Instant. | Worth upgrading, but not above her main support traces. |
| 5 | Basic ATK | Useful for Energy and Punchline, but lower damage priority. | Upgrade last unless you use her Basic ATK heavily. |
⭐ Bonus Ability Priority
| Bonus Ability | Priority | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Speed-to-Elation Bonus Ability | Highest | Explains why 160+ SPD is a real build target, not just a generic support number. |
| CRIT DMG / SP Recovery Bonus Ability | Highest | Improves damage consistency and helps the team recover Skill Points. |
| Certified Banger Duration Bonus Ability | Highest | Improves uptime and makes her teamwide value more stable. |
Trace priority summary: Ultimate and Skill first, Talent next, then Elation Skill, then Basic ATK. Unlock all major Bonus Abilities as early as possible because they define how Yao Guang actually plays.

🧱 Best Relics and Planar Ornaments for Yao Guang
The best Yao Guang relic setup is 4-piece Diviner of Distant Reach. It fits her Speed-first build and supports her Elation identity. However, do not force bad main stats just to complete a 4-piece set. A temporary 2-piece mix with better Speed and defensive stats can outperform a weak full set while farming.
🏆 Yao Guang Relic Ranking Table
| Rank | Relic Set | Best Use | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best | 4-pc Diviner of Distant Reach | Standard Yao Guang build | Best overall because it supports her Speed requirement and Elation utility. |
| Good Alternative | 2-pc Diviner of Distant Reach + 2-pc Speed / support set | Early farming or weak full-set pieces | Use this if it helps reach 160+ SPD with better bulk. |
| Temporary | Messenger-style Speed mix | Speed patching | Good only while replacing bad pieces. |
| Niche | Damage-focused Physical / CRIT mix | Showcase builds | Not recommended for most endgame support builds. |
When choosing pieces, judge the whole build rather than one relic score. A piece with Speed, HP%, and DEF% can be more valuable than a prettier CRIT piece if it keeps Yao Guang alive and lets her reach the correct cycle. For borderline pieces, use this guide on which relic stats are actually worth keeping.
🌌 Best Planar Ornaments for Yao Guang
| Rank | Planar Ornament | Best For | Why It Works |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best | Lushaka, the Sunken Seas | Most Yao Guang builds | Provides Energy Regen and supports the first-slot ally, making it ideal for carry-focused teams. |
| Strong Alternative | Sprightly Vonwacq | Opener consistency | Useful when you want smoother early action timing and Energy support. |
| Comfort Option | Fleet of the Ageless | Safer support builds | Adds bulk and team ATK value if Speed requirements are met. |
| Niche Option | Broken Keel | CRIT DMG support setups | Only use if you can meet Effect RES needs without hurting Speed or Energy. |
Relic farming advice: Farm for Speed and survival first. Yao Guang does not need a glass-cannon Physical Sphere to do her job, and many players will get better endgame results from HP% or DEF% main stats.

📊 Best Main Stats and Substats for Yao Guang
Yao Guang’s main stats should support her real job: move fast, keep Ultimate timing stable, survive endgame damage, and crit reliably during Elation windows. This is why HP% / DEF% Sphere is usually safer than Physical DMG Sphere.
| Relic Slot | Best Main Stat | Alternative | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Body | CRIT DMG / CRIT Rate | Use CRIT Rate if not capped | Use CRIT DMG Body if your in-combat CRIT Rate is already close to 100%. Use CRIT Rate Body if your relics, Light Cone, or team buffs cannot support reliable crits. |
| Feet | SPD | None for most builds | SPD Boots are strongly recommended because 160+ SPD is one of her most important targets. |
| Sphere | HP% / DEF% | Physical DMG for damage showcase only | Defensive Sphere is safer for endgame support builds because Yao Guang’s main value is team Elation support, not traditional DPS output. |
| Rope | Energy Regeneration Rate | ATK% only for niche damage builds | ERR Rope helps with her high-cost Ultimate cycle and smoother Aha Instant timing. |
⭐ Yao Guang Substat Priority
| Priority | Substat | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | SPD | Helps reach 160+ SPD and improves Elation scaling. |
| 2 | CRIT Rate | Yao Guang wants reliable crits during Elation windows. |
| 3 | CRIT DMG | Strong after CRIT Rate is stable, especially with her bonus CRIT DMG. |
| 4 | HP% / DEF% | Important for surviving high-end content. |
| 5 | Effect RES | Useful comfort stat if it does not break Speed or Energy targets. |
Build rule: If two relic pieces are close, pick the one that protects Speed, Energy, and survival. Yao Guang is not worth building as a fragile stat-screen character if she dies before her second Ultimate.
🏃 Yao Guang Speed Targets: Why 160+ SPD Matters
160 SPD matters because it helps fully activate Diviner of Distant Reach and improves her Elation scaling through her Speed-related Bonus Ability. This is not just a generic support breakpoint. It directly supports the way Yao Guang wants to function.
| SPD Target | Meaning | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| 120 SPD | Basic functional threshold for her Speed-related value. | Only acceptable for unfinished early builds. |
| 134 SPD | General support comfort point. | Use as a temporary stepping stone while farming. |
| 160 SPD | Recommended long-term target. | Best practical goal for most Yao Guang builds. |
| 160+ SPD | High-investment Speed tuning. | Good if you can keep CRIT, Energy, HP, and DEF stable. |
Do not overchase Speed blindly. More Speed can be good, but not if it makes Yao Guang too fragile or ruins her CRIT consistency. A fast dead support is still a failed build.

💡 Best Light Cones for Yao Guang
Yao Guang’s best Light Cone is When She Decided to See because it directly fixes her most important pain points: Speed tuning, Energy flow, and teamwide CRIT support. However, it is not mandatory. If your account still lacks a second sustain, a finished DPS core, or enough pulls for future Elation characters, Mushy Shroomy’s Adventures or Today’s Good Luck can carry the build while you save Stellar Jade.
| Rank | Light Cone | Recommendation | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | When She Decided to See | Best overall, major QoL for SPD and Energy. | Players who use Yao Guang daily or want the smoothest build. |
| 2 | Mushy Shroomy’s Adventures | Best F2P-friendly Elation option. | F2P players and Forgotten Hall store planning. |
| 3 | Today’s Good Luck | Strong 4-star alternative if available. | Players who already own it or need a simple usable cone. |
| 4 | Sneering | Budget / temporary option. | Early accounts with no better Elation cone yet. |
Before spending pulls on her signature, think about how Light Cone value changes by account stage. For a developed Elation account, S1 can be a real upgrade. For an unfinished account, another character may matter more.
Light Cone verdict: Signature is best, Mushy Shroomy’s Adventures is the best F2P-friendly fallback, and Today’s Good Luck is still a strong 4-star alternative. Do not pull S1 before fixing your roster.

👥 Best Yao Guang Teams in HSR 4.3
Yao Guang works best in Elation and SP-consuming teams. Her Talent gains more value when allies attack and consume Skill Points, so team design matters a lot. Do not only ask “who buffs Yao Guang?” Ask whether the whole team can use Skill Points, Elation, and Aha Instant windows correctly.
🔥 Premium Elation Team
| Team | Characters | Best For | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Premium Elation | Sparxie / Yao Guang / Sparkle / Permansor Terrae | Highest Elation synergy | Sparxie benefits from Elation support, Sparkle helps Skill Point flow, and Permansor Terrae provides sustain with strong team utility. |
Why this team works: Yao Guang wants allies who can use Skill Points and benefit from Elation mechanics. Sparkle helps the SP economy, while Sparxie gives the team a real Elation damage direction.
🧪 F2P Team
| Team | Characters | Best For | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| F2P Starter Team | Dan Heng / Yao Guang / Ice Trailblazer / Natasha | Low-investment starter build | Dan Heng consumes Skill Points, Ice Trailblazer adds support value, and Natasha keeps the team functional for early and midgame players. |
For F2P players, I would not force a perfect premium shell. A working low-investment team is better than waiting months for ideal limited characters. You can compare account-friendly options in this guide on building teams without heavy limited investment.
🎯 Generalist SP Team
| Team | Characters | Best For | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Generalist SP Team | Archer / Yao Guang / Sparkle / Permansor Terrae | Non-Elation DPS that consumes Skill Points | Archer can benefit from Yao Guang’s support profile because he spends Skill Points aggressively. This is not pure Elation, but it uses her kit well. |
🛡️ Budget Sustain Variant
| Team | Characters | Best For | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Budget Sustain Variant | DPS / Yao Guang / Hanya / Gallagher | SP economy and accessible sustain | Hanya helps Skill Point flow and ATK support, while Gallagher gives accessible healing. Choose a DPS who actually spends Skill Points. |
🏛️ Endgame Mode Fit
| Mode | How Yao Guang Helps | Build Adjustment |
|---|---|---|
| Memory of Chaos | Improves burst windows and boss damage timing. | Prioritize 160+ SPD, ERR Rope, and defensive Sphere. |
| Pure Fiction | Can help wave tempo when the team creates enough extra instances and AoE pressure. | Value fast setup and team flow over single-target greed. |
| Apocalyptic Shadow | Useful when burst timing lines up with boss vulnerability windows. | Match weakness and save Ultimate for the right phase. |
If you are choosing between Yao Guang and another support for endgame, compare whether your account needs another sustain or another support in this team-building decision guide.

🚫 Common Yao Guang Build Mistakes
This section is important because many bad Yao Guang builds look good on paper. The problem is usually not one wrong piece, but a build that misunderstands her role.
| Mistake | Why It Hurts | Better Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Building Physical DMG first | Her main value is team Elation support, not traditional DPS output. | Use HP% / DEF% Sphere for endgame stability unless doing a showcase. |
| Ignoring Energy Rope | Her Ultimate is expensive and central to her value. | Use ERR Rope for smoother Ultimate timing. |
| Using her outside SP-consuming teams without a plan | Her Talent gains more value when allies consume Skill Points. | Pair her with Elation units or SP-heavy DPS characters. |
| Overchasing Speed without bulk | She can die in endgame if HP and DEF are too low. | Stop at a practical Speed target and improve survival stats. |
| Pulling signature before fixing roster | Her Light Cone is strong but not mandatory. | Prioritize a second sustain, main DPS, or future Elation units if your account is incomplete. |
Real account advice: A functional E0 Yao Guang with good Speed, ERR Rope, and defensive stats is more useful than a poorly planned S1 Yao Guang in an unfinished team.

Image: Honkai: Star Rail © HoYoverse
🎲 Yao Guang E0 vs S1 vs Eidolons
Most players should treat E0 Yao Guang as the main target. Her base kit already provides the core Elation support package. S1 and Eidolons are upgrades, but they should be evaluated against your roster, not in isolation.
| Investment | Verdict | Who Should Consider It? |
|---|---|---|
| E0 | Best stopping point for most players. | F2P, low-spend, and most general accounts. |
| S1 | Good if you use Yao Guang daily and need smoother Speed / Energy / CRIT support. | Players who already have strong teams and want better comfort. |
| E1 | Luxury; consider only if Elation is your main account direction. | Dedicated Elation players with enough pulls. |
| E2+ | Whale / dedicated Elation investment only. | Players who are intentionally building around high-investment Yao Guang teams. |
Investment verdict: E0 is enough for most players. S1 is a strong comfort upgrade, but do not chase it before your account has stable teams, sustains, and enough pulls for future banners.
🎯 Should You Pull or Save?
Yao Guang is worth pulling if you want to build Elation teams or support SP-consuming damage dealers. She is less urgent if your account lacks survival, has no real DPS core, or cannot use her Elation mechanics well.
| Account Situation | Pull or Save? | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| You want to build Elation teams long-term | Pull | Yao Guang is one of the key support-core pieces for Elation planning. |
| You already have Sparxie or plan to pull future Elation units | Pull | Her value rises when the team can actually use Elation mechanics. |
| You use SP-consuming DPS units like Archer or Imbibitor Lunae | Consider Pulling | She can work outside pure Elation when the DPS consumes Skill Points. |
| You lack two reliable sustains | Save or wait | Endgame comfort often depends more on sustain coverage. |
| You are F2P with low pity and limited Jade | Be careful | Do not gamble your full banner plan unless Yao Guang is your priority. |
| You already own E0 and use her every day | Consider S1 | Her signature improves the exact stats she cares about. |
Before deciding on S1 or a future rerun, plan whether your pity is safe before pulling Yao Guang’s Light Cone. This matters even more for F2P players because her 4-star options are already workable.
F2P advice: Pull Yao Guang if she unlocks a real team direction for your account. Skip S1 if you still need a sustain, a second DPS, or enough Stellar Jade for the next character you care about.

❓ FAQ: Yao Guang Build in HSR 4.3
Is Yao Guang worth building in HSR 4.3?
Yes, Yao Guang is worth building if you pulled her or plan to use Elation and SP-consuming teams. She provides team utility, Elation support, Aha Instant value, and extra damage flow rather than acting as a simple Physical DPS.
What is the best Yao Guang build?
The best Yao Guang build uses 4-piece Diviner of Distant Reach, Lushaka, the Sunken Seas, SPD Boots, ERR Rope, HP% or DEF% Sphere, and a 160+ SPD target. After that, build CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, HP, and DEF.
Should Yao Guang use Physical DMG Sphere?
Usually no. Physical DMG Sphere is mainly for damage showcase builds. For normal endgame support builds, HP% or DEF% Sphere is safer because Yao Guang needs to survive and keep her Elation support active.
How much Speed does Yao Guang need?
Yao Guang should aim for 160+ SPD. This helps activate Diviner of Distant Reach and improves her Elation scaling through her Speed-related Bonus Ability. Early builds can use 134 SPD temporarily, but 160+ is the better long-term target.
What is Yao Guang’s best Light Cone?
Her best Light Cone is When She Decided to See. It improves Speed tuning, Energy flow, and team CRIT support. For F2P players, Mushy Shroomy’s Adventures and Today’s Good Luck are strong alternatives.
Does Yao Guang need her signature Light Cone?
No. Her signature is strong, but not mandatory. If your account lacks a second sustain, a finished DPS core, or enough pulls for future characters, staying at E0 with a 4-star Light Cone is perfectly reasonable.
What is the best Yao Guang F2P team?
A practical F2P starter team is Dan Heng / Yao Guang / Ice Trailblazer / Natasha. It gives Yao Guang a Skill Point-consuming DPS, accessible support, and basic sustain without requiring multiple limited 5-stars.
Is Yao Guang only good in Elation teams?
No. Yao Guang is best in Elation teams, but she can also support SP-consuming DPS units. Her value drops if the team does not use Skill Points or benefit from her Elation-related mechanics.
As of July 8, 2026, Yao Guang is not on the current HSR 4.3 Phase 2 banner. Her latest rerun was in HSR 4.3 Phase 1 from June 1 to June 24, 2026. Always check official HoYoverse notices before planning pulls.
📝 Version Notes
